CAP – Call for evidence – children’s recognition of online ads

The ASA/CAP have released a post called: Call for evidence – children’s recognition of online ads. I have enclosed the text of the link below, but please have a look at the ASA/CAP site as there are lots of things of interest to anyone with an interest in Ethical Marketing.

The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) is announcing an open call for evidence on children’s ability to recognise online marketing communications.

Recognising when we are being marketed to is important for all consumers. That’s why it’s a central requirement of the UK Advertising Codes. But it is especially important for younger children who are still developing their understanding of the commercial world around them.

CAP recently developed detailed guidance on recognition in online environments as part of our continuing commitment to ensure that children are afforded appropriate and effective protections.

After carrying out a 12-month review of the guidance, we’re keen to update its understanding of the evidence base and ensure that its policies on children’s recognition are in the right place.

Submissions are invited by 5pm on 5 December.

See the call for evidence document.
