#CIPRChat returns to tackle mental health in PR

The CIPR will host a tweet chat on Friday 18 May on mental health in public relations, in support of Mental Health Awareness Week.

This year’s State of the Profession research recently revealed around one in six (16%) PR professionals live with a mental health condition – an increase of 10% on the previous year’s figure.

The hour-long tweet chat kicks off at midday using the hashtag #CIPRChat. The topics will include:

  • Given the reported increase in mental health conditions among public relations professionals, is PR becoming more stressful or are we more comfortable talking about the issue?
  • What practical action can line managers take to support the mental wellbeing of employees?
  • How can PR professionals help remove the stigma of mental health?
  • What advice can you share for those currently living with a mental health condition?
Sarah Hall Chart.PR, FCIPR, CIPR President says:

Public relations is a challenging business so it’s important that organisations recognise their duty of care to employees, and employees themselves are proactive in managing their mental health. Conversations in the workplace are critical to this and removing any stigma.

Our goal as an industry should be to reach a point where mental wellbeing is seen as important as good physical health but we have still some way to go in achieving that. Hopefully this Twitter chat will open debate and be another step in the right direction.
