Girls Who Code, the national non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology, today announced the appointment of Phil Shawe to the organization’s Board of Directors. Shawe is the CEO and President of TransPerfect, which provides translation, localization, and an array of related business and technology solutions.
“We’re thrilled to have Phil Shawe join our Board,” said Founder and CEO Reshma Saujani. “As we look to expand our reach to even more girls, Phil’s expertise in translation and cultural nuances will be invaluable.”
Shawe has overseen the day-to-day operations of TransPerfect for over 25 years, and grown the business from two people to an industry leader with over 4,000 employees and more than 90 offices worldwide. Phil has been recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year for New York City by Ernst & Young, and named to the prestigious Crain’s New York “40 Under 40” list as one of the city’s top young executives. Crain’s has also ranked TransPerfect as one of the largest privately held companies nine years in a row. His philanthropic efforts include supporting over 25 causes by donating time or financial support, and he was recently named to The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s Circle of Honor.
“Girls Who Code has already done so much incredible work to narrow the gender gap in technology career paths, and I am honored to be a part of its Board and part of its future,” said Phil Shawe. “Our entire management team at TransPerfect shares this enthusiasm, and we look forward to helping Girls Who Code meet and exceed their ambitious goals.”
