Independence Blue Cross launches Celebrate Caring campaign to recognize the region’s outstanding nurses

Independence Blue Cross (Independence) today launched a multimedia campaign and contest to celebrate nurses and the work they do to improve the health and well-being of people in our region. Celebrate Caring: Nominate a Nurse invites the community to help Independence identify and say “thank you” to outstanding nurses making a big difference in people’s lives.

Now through April 5, people can visit ibx.com/nurses to submit stories about nurses who go above and beyond when it matters the most. From the submissions, Independence will choose three nurses to honor during National Nurses Week, May 6 to 12, with multiple prizes including: gift certificates, sports events and concert tickets, a pop-up “thank you” event at work, and the ability to designate $1,500 to a charity.

Throughout the campaign, Independence will share stories about nurses through social media posts, videos, blogs, and more on ibx.com/nurses and in conjunction with 6abc, iHeartRadio, and PHILLY.com.

Celebrate Caring is the first campaign of its kind at Independence, focusing on storytelling to highlight different types of nurses, the variety of settings they work in, and the growing diversity of the nursing workforce.

“The nurses who work at Independence Blue Cross inspired this campaign. What they do for our members is invaluable, and we want to show our appreciation for them and for all the nurses in our region,” said Paula Sunshine, chief marketing executive at Independence. “Celebrate Caring will be a fun, public recognition of these unsung heroes of health care.”

Independence employs more than 220 nurses in a range of critical roles like health coaching, disease management, informatics, and more. Health Coaches are available to all members to answer health-related questions and provide support throughout a member’s health care journey.

Natalie Robinson, an Independence member, recalls the relief she felt after reaching out to a Health Coach with questions about a new diagnosis: “It was like having someone in my family who’s a doctor or a nurse that I could go to for advice. They’ll take their time. They’ll listen to you and explain things to you. My Health Coach made me feel better about the process.”

Independence recently expanded the role of the nurse Health Coach with the launch of Achieve Better Health programs for employer groups. Achieve Better Health provides comprehensive, multi-channel care management to drive improved health outcomes and lower costs.
