AT&T is donating $100,000 to the Captain Planet Foundation™ after a successful challenge based in the new mobile game, “Captain Planet: Gaia Guardians,” published by Turner’s Adult Swim Games. During the “Hope Island Recovery Challenge,” AT&T and Turner called on Planeteers to restore trees in the game to help generate a real-world donation from AT&T to the Captain Planet Foundation. AT&T’s donation supports Project Learning Garden™, a program creating schoolyard gardens for students to engage in inquiry-driven, project-based learning.
“AT&T thanks and celebrates all the ‘Planeteers’ who took in-game action this week to create real world impact,” said Charlene Lake, senior vice president – corporate social responsibility and chief sustainability officer, AT&T. “We’re excited to be able to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards, while creating outdoor learning environments at more schools.”
All player-generated donations will benefit Project Learning Garden, a program of the Captain Planet Foundation that helps teachers facilitate an engaging hands-on lesson in the garden instead of a textbook-driven lesson in the classroom – while teaching the same required curriculum standard in math, science, social studies, health or language arts. It also connects students to nature and their food while helping them develop an understanding of natural systems and an early palate for fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables.
