SHE Media Opens the Call for Entries for the Fifth-Annual #Femvertising Awards on March 8, in Celebration of International Women’s Day 2019

SHE Media (formerly SheKnows Media), a mission-driven digital media company created by and for women with approximately 60 million unique visitors per month (comScore) and 350 million-plus social media fans and followers, today announced that it has opened the Call for Nominations for its annual #Femvertising Awards in celebration of International Women’s Day 2019.

This year marks the awards program’s fifth anniversary, which SHE Media founded in 2015 after coining the now widely used term “Femvertising” to honor brands, agencies and organizations that break down gender stereotypes through pro-female advertising. It has since expanded to include categories that pay tribute to ads that challenge societal norms associated with race, sexual orientation and religious beliefs. Two such categories, Dadvertising and Normvertising, counter perceptions around gender labels and roles, and also dovetail with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, #BalanceForBetter – a nod to the global push for professional and social equality.

Since 2015, more than 350 agencies and brands across a range of industries have submitted their work for consideration, and nearly 40,000 votes by the public have been cast to determine the winners. Recipients of the #Femvertising Awards across all years include: Always, Audi, Barbie, Bud Light, Coca-Cola, CoverGirl, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dove, General Mills, John Frieda, Lane Bryant, L’Oreal Paris, Lyft, Organic Valley, Pantene, Procter & Gamble, RAM Trucks, Under Armour, and more.

Below are key dates and deadlines for the 2019 #Femvertising Awards:

  • March 7, 2019: Call for entries opens
  • May 10, 2019: Call for entries closes and judges begin the selection process
  • July 2019: Finalists are announced, and public voting begins
  • September 2019: Winners are announced in conjunction with SHE Media’s #BlogHer19 Creators Summit and Advertising Week 2019

“Just five years ago, mainstream advertising was very different than it is today,” said Samantha Skey, CEO, SHE Media. “We could sense there was a growing desire for ads featuring messages and images that inspire and empower women and girls. We also believed that companies should never have to choose between profit and social responsibility. Creating the #Femvertising Awards, which over the last five years has expanded to honor ads that do the right thing by all underserved communities, remains one of SHE Media’s most important initiatives. Advertising continues to play an important role in shaping societal norms, and we look forward to celebrating work that challenges the status quo and promotes equality for all.”
