The Co-op announced an end to single-use plastic. It will see around 60 million plastic carrier bags removed in a phased rollout and replaced with an environmentally-friendly alternative. Greene King has announced it will introduce compostable PLA straws across its entire UK estate of 1,750 pubs, as part of its pledge to send zero waste to landfill by 2020. Waitrose Becomes First Supermarket to Stock Home Compostable Coffee Pods

Waitrose will be the first major retailer to sell own-label home compostable coffee pods from December 2018. This is the next step in the supermarket fulfilling its commitment that all its own-label packaging will be widely recyclable, reusable or home compostable by 2025.
