Carbon cutting fuel use grows at Heathrow, while Government continues to stall on securing aviation’s greener future

Airlines at Heathrow are anticipated to use record amounts of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) next year as the airport extends its carbon cutting scheme for a third year. In 2024, £71m will be available to airlines through the incentive, targeting up to 2.5% of aviation fuel used at Heathrow to be SAF and if achieved, amounting to 155,000 tonnes of aviation fuel. Heathrow reduces emissions with SAF

Heathrow has successfully incorporated sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into its operation, ahead of the G7 Summit. Working alongside Vitol Aviation and Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™, the fuel will be incorporated into the airport’s main fuel supply today, and blended to use across flights operating at Heathrow over the next few days. Heathrow targets zero carbon airport by mid-2030s as infrastructure already lands carbon neutral status

Heathrow has announced it’s become one of the world’s first major aviation hubs to become carbon neutral, for its infrastructure, and the first to target zero carbon by the mid-2030s. Following investment of over £100 million in improving Heathrow’s energy efficiency and generating and purchasing renewable energy, Heathrow has reduced carbon emissions from airport buildings and infrastructure by 93% compared to 1990. Heathrow offers free landing charges for a year to UK’s first electric plane

Heathrow takes vital step towards carbon neutrality

Heathrow has announced its investment in an unique project in UK aviation: the restoration of UK peatlands to offset carbon emissions.  Working with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and DEFRA, Heathrow’s first restoration priority will be Little Woolden Moss, part of Chat Moss which is a larger area of peat bog land, west of Manchester, it has been subject to commercial peat extraction for over 15 years.   The restoration of the UK’s peatland bogs, forms part of Heathrow’s plans to be a carbon neutral airport by 2020.
