100 businesses, organisations and governments from across the globe commit to net zero carbon buildings

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) has announced that five world-leading companies joined the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment (the Commitment). These new additions bring the total number of signatories to 100, which is a doubling of participation in the programme in just over one year. Since inception, businesses and organisations signed up to the Commitment now cover nearly 6,000 assets, over 32 million m2 total floor area and $100 billion USD in annual turnover. Morrisons Plans to Become the First Supermarket to Remove All Plastic Carrier Bags at Checkouts

Morrisons is planning to remove all plastic ‘bags for life’ from its checkouts if a trial in eight stores proves popular. Single use 5p carrier bags were removed from most major supermarkets in 2018, but customers are still buying plastic ‘bags for life’, which are stronger and thicker. In some cases, there is evidence they are being used once before being binned. Where there’s muck there’s gas… National Grid uses biomethane from cow manure

Biomethane has been connected from a farm in Cambridgeshire to the Gas National Transmission System (NTS) for the first time at the end of July. Murrow Anaerobic Digestion Plant in Cambridgeshire operated by Biocow Ltd produces the renewable gas made from cattle manure and straw.  The process is called anaerobic digestion and involves sealing waste in tanks without oxygen, where the material is broken down by naturally occurring micro-organisms into biogas. The pipeline will support flows of up to 15,000 standard cubic metres per hour, enough for the annual gas…
