Vision

Cugir’s lifelong learning plan aims to transform its industrial heritage into a circular, sustainable future. Its vision focuses on repurposing industrial spaces as innovation hubs and promoting local history. This vision also entails promoting a circular economy with initiatives like expanded bicycle lanes, sustainable waste management and new markets.

We have to learn to harness education and rebrand ourselves as a circular economy based on a green city, local history and tourism.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
Cugir’s learning strategy integrates sustainability and health through intelligent urban planning. It involves the creation of green spaces and cycle paths, the promotion of efficient public transport, and the establishment of charging stations for low-emission vehicles. Additionally, the city is enhancing energy efficiency in buildings, renovating hospitals, improving recreational areas and launching campaigns on healthy eating and environmental responsibility.
Equity and inclusion
The city’s learning strategy aims to ensure that services are available to all residents, irrespective of religion, social status or ethnicity. Efforts to combat poverty and discrimination include access to counselling and anti-discrimination programmes. Health campaigns run by the Michelangelo Social Services Centre target the well-being of marginalized and vulnerable groups.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
The municipality’s Inclusiv project offers entrepreneurial training, assistance with business plan development and specialized commission reviews. Additionally, it helps to establish companies and provides new businesses with subsidies, counselling and mentoring, thereby benefiting local entrepreneurs.

Lotus
The Lotus initiative aims to enhance older adults’ quality of life. It offers integrated and high-quality social services, especially to those at risk of social exclusion. It focuses on preventing dependency and improving physical and mental well-being. The initiative currently benefits 162 older adults.
