Vision

The city champions lifelong learning, merging tradition with modern skills. Through an educational network, Fundão nurtures knowledge-sharing across generations. Facing population decline, Fundão innovates, blending programming education in schools with local crafts. Its holistic approach aims to foster a community of well-rounded, globally conscious citizens.

All of Fundão’s children learn how to programme – but they also learn how to make cheese. Our young people can maintain their roots yet still spread their wings and fly.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
Fundão fosters education and the environmental sustainability, along with health and well-being initiatives. The Memo Move project promotes holistic health among older adults, and the city’s continuous dedication to sport earned it the title of Sports-friendly Municipality.
Equity and inclusion
Fundão is committed to fostering an inclusive community where all members are valued and empowered. Key focus areas include family, citizenship, combating violence, and health rights.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
Since 2012, Fundão has pursued a territorial innovation strategy focusing on creating a conducive environment for tech companies, fostering entrepreneurship and promoting urban regeneration. This integrated approach has attracted diverse talents and helped create IT jobs.

Good practices

Fundão Migration Centre
The centre aims to create policies for inclusion, integration and social mobility, thereby countering depopulation and aging. Since 2016, the centre has assisted over 253 asylum seekers and refugees, provided facilities for seasonal workers, and collaborated with Fundão Professional School to host international students. This multidimensional approach to migrant inclusion has positively impacted 853 individuals.
Medeia project
This initiative seeks to address social inclusion challenges for immigrants and vulnerable populations. This project employs mediators to work with the community, ensuring targeted efforts for specific groups.
Junior Code Academy
This project integrates computer programming into the basic education curriculum of county schools. Providing resources (videos, games and debates) inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, it covers topics such as technology, renewable energy and gender equality. The initiative is designed to hone logical reasoning skills in children aged six to 12.
