Vision

Lviv is working to create an inclusive learning environment that nurtures both soft and hard skills across all age groups. To do so, it is pursuing four key objectives: accessible learning facilities, job-relevant competencies, adult education and innovation in higher education. As part of UNESCO GNLC, Lviv will work to solidify its commitment to making education a central aspect of city development.

The slogan of Lviv’s lifelong learning mission: learn continually! My ultimate goal is to introduce a lifelong learning concept for all citizens.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
Lviv is working to incorporate sustainability and health into the city’s learning environment by focusing on environmental awareness and well-being. This approach aligns with Lviv’s broader urban development plans, aiming for a climate-neutral city. It also emphasizes the four pillars of positive health – physical, emotional, cognitive and social – through diverse educational and lifestyle activities like dancing and sports.
Equity and inclusion
The city is working to challenge gender stereotypes in educational activities. Furthermore, concerted efforts are being made to improve educational services for vulnerable groups, with free educational courses in municipal libraries and youth centres, ensuring that all citizens have access to learning opportunities.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
Lviv prioritizes the development of competencies and soft skills for lifelong learning and decent work, with an emphasis on improving digital literacy due to the city’s role as a global IT and tourism centre. The strategy also focuses on entrepreneurship skills, facilitated by collaborations with various economic clusters in Lviv, linking the learning environment to the city’s broader Breakthrough Strategy for creativity and entrepreneurship.

Good practices

Network CE
Established by the city council and DVV International, the initiative offers non-formal lifelong learning for adults through nine municipal libraries. With over 8,000 alumni and online participants, the network provides free courses in professional development, psychology and personal growth.
Science Goes to You
This project aims to popularize STEM subjects in primary and secondary schools through the use of mobile laboratories. These labs travel around the city, hosting local educational festivals with interactive exhibits related to the fields of physics, music and mathematics.
Clean City
The initiative aims to implement zero-waste and ecofriendly principles in educational institutions. The programme includes non-formal courses for teachers on waste management and systems development, and ecofocused courses for students. The initiative is implemented in every school in Lviv.
