Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
The city promotes energy efficiency and renewable energies to reduce the disparities between urban and rural areas. Solar lighting and water supply projects are under way. The municipality is also committed to combating climate change through reforestation, and to improving access to public health care.
Equity and inclusion
Maroua 1 is committed to the inclusion of marginalized groups. Most buildings are equipped with access ramps, and the city provides teaching staff to offer training to marginalized groups.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
Access to learning is at the heart of the city’s strategies. The city offers entrepreneurship training to reduce unemployment among young people and women. Furthermore, the council funds projects by young entrepreneurs in agriculture, livestock farming and other sectors.

Good practices

Open participatory budget
The project aims to increase the involvement of the population in local municipal management through digital platforms designed to inform citizens about the management of the municipal budget. Such an initiative seeks to ensure citizens are engaged in the planning and execution of the municipality’s educational programmes.
