Vision

San Luis Potosí aims to promote community participation and co-responsibility in the long term, with a focus on voluntary work in non-formal education settings in vulnerable communities. As part of the city’s medium-term objectives, it seeks to offer lifelong learning alternatives to the migrant population to ensure their social and professional inclusion, promote the intergenerational exchange of knowledge, support environmental conservation, address health problems and link young people with training programmes for skills development and employment.

Education and learning are the basis for individual, family and societal development. Discover the power of learning from the heart in San Luis Potosí.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
To address environmental challenges related to industry and population growth, the ‘Haciendo Eco’ (Making Eco) programme offers lectures and workshops on forestry culture, recycling, reforestation and waste separation. As regards health, the city aims to reduce obesity rates among adults and young people by 5 per cent by conducting educational tours, workshops and informative events promoting healthy habits.
Equity and inclusion
San Luis Potosí has developed four programmes to promote inclusion. The ‘Talentos de Mi Comunidad’ (Talents of My Community) initiative supports vulnerable individuals. The ‘También Eres Potosino’ (You Are Also Potosino) programme provides migrants with training and assists with their cultural inclusion. The ‘Tocando Corazones con Armonía’ (Touching Hearts with Harmony) project brings music to priority areas of the city. ‘Voluntariado de Corazón’ (Volunteering from the Heart) encourages unpaid volunteering through courses and workshops, fostering community engagement and earning participants recognition from the Learning City Council.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
San Luis Potosí aims to engage young people in learning through initiatives such as the Itinerant Youth Workshops, which boosts participants’ chances of future employment, and by recognizing businesses that invest in staff training, and bringing cultural events to priority neighbourhoods. Supported by various organizations, these programmes adapt curricula to meet learners’ needs and local economic demands, fostering lifelong learning that is relevant to the labour market.

Good practices

‘Domingo de Pilas’ (My Government Sunday)
This project – a collaboration between the municipal administration and local citizens – has revitalized 45 public spaces in San Luis Potosí. Activities are held in a different neighbourhood each Sunday, and directly address citizen demands, enhance public services and foster a culture of co-responsibility for the maintenance and protection of public spaces.
‘Futuros Emprendedores’ (Future Entrepreneurs)
This project aims to instil productive life skills, especially in children, young people and mothers, through entrepreneurship workshops and training. The initiative received recognition from the UNDP in the category of Inclusive Economic Recovery due to its positive impact on the economic outlook in the community.
TECNOLOchicas
This programme encourages girls attending middle and high school in San Luis Potosí to explore careers in STEM fields. It provides scholarships and workshops covering website and application design, robotics, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.
