Long-term goals aim to transform the city into a cohesive learning community. UNESCO GNLC membership underscores the municipality’s commitment to comprehensive education and training, benefiting all age groups and enhancing socio-economic prospects. This includes adult education for those who have not completed formal schooling.

Representing the district and my administration, I am committed to innovating on the issues that all big cities are vulnerable to, and to placing a special emphasis on education for life and throughout life.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
Santiago de Surco focuses on the physical and mental health of vulnerable populations, offering health campaigns, vaccinations, treatment plans and specialized care through facilities like the Centre for Older Adults and the support of the Municipal Office for Help and Services forPeople with Disabilities.
Equity and inclusion
Santiago de Surco champions inclusivity across all sectors and population groups, irrespective of age, race or gender. Taking the lead in celebrating diversity, the city promotes family bonding in parks and provides career training for women, partnering with institutions like the local technical education centre. The Manos Surcanas Fair offers classes in ceramics, weaving and gastronomy for women.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
In line with constitutional and local guidelines, Santiago de Surco focuses on its citizens’ well-being and employment. The Surco Laborando programme collaborates with businesses to provide job opportunities, while the ‘Supérate’ (Better Yourself) initiative equips students to take up employment or start their own businesses, thus ensuring a future offering meaningful work for all.

‘Mancomunidad Educativa’ (Education Community)
The ‘Mancomunidad Educativa’ in Santiago de Surco is a collaborative initiative involving multiple organizations, including the Municipal Corporation, Local Educational Management Unit 07, Peruvian National Police, Governor’s Office, Women’s Emergency Centre, Indecopi and Mindes. They work together to improve education and learning both within and outside educational institutions, earning recognition for their public management practices. The community has formed strategic partnerships with various entities in order to enhance educational opportunities in the district.
