Mary Wells Lawrence, the first woman to own and run a major national advertising agency, passed away this weekend at age 95.

The real life inspiration for #MadMen’s Peggy Olson, Lawrence, is an advertising industry legend.

Lawrence revolutionized drug advertising, automobile advertising, airline advertising, and television advertising. In 1966, she started a business from the ground up and just 15 years later, became the first female CEO of a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Throughout her remarkable career, Lawrence played a pivotal role in steering notable campaigns such as “Trust the Midas touch,” “I ❤️ NY,” and Alka-Seltzer’s “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is.”

Mary Wells Lawrence’s career shattered glass ceilings, redefined the possibilities for women in advertising and paved the way for future generations of ambitious visionaries.

Moms are everything. This one’s for you 💗
Not just today, but every day, let’s celebrate the moms, and all the maternal figures in our lives. Thank you, Mom.

Happy #MothersDay 💕
Girls’ day out! 👗

via Talenacleyne/TikTok: “My great grandma (97) who only ever wears pants and a t-shirt told me she didn’t feel pretty anymore. This coming from such a strong, powerful and inspirational woman honestly broke my heart. She mentioned she might like to wear a dress again, and I know she hasn’t worn one since Pa passed away, so I was determined to have this be a special and fun day for her.

Mum and I took her dress shopping and we truly had the best girls day. She smiled and laughed so much (more than I’ve seen her laugh in a long time), she was obviously sassy as she always is, she was very particular and picky on the make of the dresses, the fabric used and the way it did up. It was beautiful to sit and watch her look in the mirror and admire who she was and how she looked in each dress, but also watch her point out what she didn’t like about herself and some of the dresses (because that’s human, and seeing my great grandma do exactly what I would do when trying on clothes was so incredibly relatable and realistic to the unrealistic standards we put on ourselves).

I was so glad I could be there to tell her she looked beautiful because she truly is in every way. I watched her move around in the dresses to see how they would look when she was doing puzzles at the retirement village, I watched her face light up when she tried on a dress that made her feel pretty, but at the end of the day there was nothing like seeing her face when she tried on ‘the’ dress that made her feel all the wonderful things we see her for from on the outside but she never sees herself.”
Diagnosing the debilitating disease that is endometriosis is done with a surgical procedure called a “laparoscopy”. It’s no wonder so many women go undiagnosed when surgery is the only avenue that will provide definitive answers. A lack of awareness and willingness to believe women is also to blame.

Women need doctors on their side. They need them to start believing their pain and symptoms and put effort into diagnosing a chronic disease that affects 10% of women—and 50% of women who are infertile.

In fact, in a 2004 study, 47% of women with #endometriosis had seen at least five doctors before being diagnosed or referred. Gender bias plays into this rampant denial of a woman’s pain and suffering—many doctors believing that women are simply more dramatic or anxious. What will it take for our pain to be taken and treated seriously?

Postpartum looks different for everyone, including this mom, Kaitlin Donner, who wanted to set a post-pregnancy goal for herself. She broke the record for the fastest mile ran while pushing a stroller at a very speedy 5:11 minutes—with baby in tow! What a ride, (for her and her son), who she jokes “will have a ‘fun fact’ for life.”
Forever a parent 💗 Thank you, Dads.
