    Situation

Feeling lonely is an increasingly common experience in the UK. Nearly half of all adults (26 million people), reported feeling lonely. And it’s getting worse – rates of loneliness have risen since 2020. Why is this important? Intense experiences of loneliness can have negative outcomes on our lives, such as increasing the risk of early death, poor mental health, loss of confidence, increase in stress, high blood pressure and poorer work performance. The impact costs around c. £9,900/ person.

    Solution

Food is at the core of the services that our partner charities provide, therefore the more good to eat, surplus food that FareShare is able to redistribute, the greater their impact. Currently 88% of our charities provide additional services such as mental health support, including tackling loneliness. As a result of this wraparound care, communities are coming together, and individuals are being supported, with 88% saying they feel less isolated and 81% experiencing improved mental health.
