Whilst the positive impact reading has on life outcomes and well-being is well known, many primary schools have limited resources to be able to provide a good selection of books. We will work with 5 primary schools within our region who have all applied to be a part of our ‘Build a Library’ campaign

    Situation

Research has shown the positive impact reading has on education and wellbeing, but sadly many primary schools have a very limited selection of books available to their children. Growing demands on budgets, stretched resources and lack of government support all play a significant role in contributing to this desperate shortfall. OECD research shows that reading for pleasure is the single biggest factor on how well children do in life. Without books in school, achievements in reading are limited.

    Solution

We are aiming to give 5 schools local to our charity a real boost by making a significant contribution to their school libraries. Working in partnership with the schools and our supporters, and the community, we want to donate as many books as possible so more children can access a wider selection of books in school to borrow and read at home with their families. Each partner school will receive an author visit to open their new library and spend a morning with the children exploring stories,
