Nucleo uses music to build communities and empower young people. Our free, immersive programme makes a musical education accessible for any child or young person. We are fundraising for our Junior Symphony Orchestra, which provides children aged 9-15 with the chance to grow through music.

    Situation

With school and family finances under extreme pressure, fewer and fewer children are getting the chance to learn a musical instrument: a 15% drop since 2014. In our neighbourhood of Kensington and Chelsea more than one in five children live in poverty. Many children here are shut out of music education and all the opportunities for fun, friendship and self-development it is proven to provide. Music unlocks potential: we believe every child deserves the chance to take part in it.

    Solution

Nucleo runs an extra-curricular community music programme for children and young people aged 0-20. Happening six days a week throughout the school year, we give children aged 3+ the opportunity to learn an instrument and be part of an ensemble, from beginner to advanced level. The Arts For Impact Fund would help us run our Junior Symphony Orchestra for 65 learners aged 9-15 over the 12 months, giving them the chance to rehearse and study three times a week.
