Celebrity storytelling events at John Lewis stores in Leeds and London to raise money for Barnardo’s

Celebrity storytelling sessions about the heart-warming tale of Moz The Monster from the 2017 John Lewis Christmas advert are being held in aid of the UK’s leading children’s charity Barnardo’s.

This coming Saturday, 16th December, award-winning children’s author, poet and voiceover artist Christina Gabbitas will be reading the lovable tale at the John Lewis shop in the Victoria Gate shopping centre in Leeds from 1pm to 3pm. On Saturday 23rd December, Escape To The Country host and former Newsround presenter Sonali Shah will be at Peter Jones in Sloane Square, London, from 3.30pm to read the Moz The Monster story book.

The events will raise funds for young carers around the UK who are supported by Barnardo’s. In 2016/2017, Barnardo’s supported 3,251 young carers aged 5 to 17 who provide care or support to a family member who is sick, disabled, has mental health problems, or is misusing substances.

The charity will receive a donation from the sale of Moz plush toys and mugs, menswear Christmas jumpers and Christmas cards.

Christina, a long-term supporter of Barnardo’s, said: “It is always a great honour to support Barnardo’s to raise much needed vital funds to help vulnerable children.

John Lewis is helping to make a huge impact, not only in monetary terms but also encouraging children and parents to read together, and share the pleasure that this can give, both socially and emotionally.

Moz The Monster is a brilliantly entertaining story and fantastic way to make a positive impact in bringing families together.”

Sonali Shah added: “It is going to be so much fun to read share the story of Moz and Joe’s friendship. It’s a touching story which makes everyone smile and is sure to keep everyone entertained at the events.

It is great that Barnardo’s is receiving a donation from John Lewis – every penny really does help vulnerable children around the UK.”

Barnardo’s Chief Executive, Javed Khan said: “Every year thousands of people fall in love with the characters from the John Lewis advert so it is fantastic that Barnardo’s young carer services will receive a donation from something that touches the hearts of so many people.

We really hope everyone enjoys these story-telling events – they should be great fun.

This is such a great opportunity to raise money for our vital services, which support some of the most vulnerable children, young people, parents and carers across the UK.”

We had a brilliant time listening to Christina reading stories with an amazing capacity to change into different characters throughout each book!
