Architect and TV presenter George Clarke will be visiting homes across the UK as part of a new initiative from ScottishPower to help challenge the myths around installing green technology and living more sustainably at home. As ScottishPower’s Greener Living Ambassador, George will meet families who are embracing green technologies and proving that greener living is more achievable than many people think.
The road trip will begin in Edinburgh, where George will meet family man Carlo Lagorio and his wife, Anggi, who will share the benefits of charging their electric car at home. Travelling south, George is set to visit firefighter Mark Haslam and his wife, Amanda, in Bolton, to highlight the benefits they’ve experienced since having solar panels installed on their home 13 years ago.
He will then head to Hereford to meet Andrew and Susan Price, who recently upgraded their home with a heat pump. The final stop will take George to Barry Island, where busy mum Rebecca Helmore will chat about running an energy-efficient household while balancing family life.
The road trip aims to shine a spotlight on everyday people making practical changes and demonstrating how greener technologies can work in real homes, helping to inspire others to take steps towards a more sustainable future.
On the tour, George Clarke said: “It’s exciting to be able to meet incredible ScottishPower customers from all walks of life, each with different stories and lifestyles and having the opportunity to sit down with them in their own homes and to talk about how embracing low carbon tech has made a difference to their homes, bills and futures.
“What will be most inspiring is seeing first-hand how ordinary families are making changes that not only benefit the environment but also their home life. These stories will show that greener living is not something for the future, it’s happening right now in communities across the UK.”
The road trip comes at a crucial time, with new ScottishPower research revealing that two in three Brits (67%) say greener living still feels out of reach. The Great Green Challenge is designed to cut through confusion and tackle myths that can slow progress on greener living. The research also highlights that nearly one in four people (22%) want to go greener when it comes to their homes. By bringing real stories, real homes and real results to communities across the UK, the challenge aims to prove that greener living doesn’t have to be complicated, it can be achievable and a part of everyday life.
The Great Green Challenge forms part of ScottishPower’s commitment to helping homes navigate the transition to greener living, by providing practical support and real-life inspiration.
