£400k for National Grid innovation projects as part of Ofgem fund to help shape Britain’s net zero transition

Research into state-of-the-art monitoring systems for offshore cables and an initiative to support the decarbonisation of rural areas are among the National Grid-led innovation projects to be funded through the latest stage of Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF). Ofgem welcomes proposed legal mandate to prioritise the UK’s 2050 net zero target

Ofgem has welcomed the Government’s amendment to the Energy Bill giving the regulator a statutory net zero duty. This will restate Ofgem’s principal objective to protect the interests of existing and future gas and electricity consumers. It will add a specific duty to do so by supporting the Government meet its legal obligation to get to net zero by 2050, as required by the Climate Change Act 2008.
