The Carbon Trust has announced a new partnership with the IKEA Foundation following an award of €5 million to support the new Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities (PREO) Programme, which will be delivered jointly with Energy 4 Impact. The PREO programme aims to use renewable energy in sub-Saharan Africa to boost long-term job creation and reduce poverty through economic growth and empowerment of women. Greene King, the UK’s leading pub retailer and brewer, is announcing on Stop Food Waste Day, it is the first pub company in the UK to achieve the Carbon Trust’s Zero Waste to Landfill Standard. It has achieved this by diverting all its waste from landfill across all waste streams generated by its 1,700 managed pubs – from food waste to kitchen equipment.
