Dutch project to combine solar and farming

In the Netherlands Vattenfall is constructing a solar park where solar panels are combined with cultivation. The aim of the so-called Symbizon project is to show that farming and solar panels can go well together. In densely populated Netherlands land use is a hot issue. The Symbizon agri-PV project in Almere just outside Amsterdam aims to find new ways to combine solar power production and agriculture. Construction started in the summer and will be completed in the autumn. The strips between the solar panels will then be prepared for sowing…

Vattenfall and CAKE reveal hidden CO2 sources when producing an electric motorcycle

Vattenfall and CAKE have announced an innovative initiative to visualize carbon emissions from production. Within the joint project Cleanest Dirt Bike Ever, CAKE and Vattenfall are revealing the climate impact of producing one CAKE Kalk OR electric offroader by placing it in a cube, 8.6 meters tall, that represents the volume of carbon emissions – 637 cubic meters, equal to 1,186 kg of carbon dioxide. “Fossil-free vehicles means that the entire production part needs to be decarbonized, regardless of the fuel they are running on. In fact, far from every…

In 2021 Vattenfall further increased its emission reduction target for 2030 and beyond, setting some of the most ambitious climate change targets in the energy sector. Emissions intensity will now be reduced by 77 percent from 2017 to 2030, achieving net zero in the full value chain by 2040. Already in 2020, Vattenfall achieved the target of reducing absolute CO2 emissions by nearly 40% from 2017 – ten years ahead of schedule. The new target were set to support limiting global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees. They are…

Vattenfall and Preem to investigate large scale decarbonization using offshore wind and hydrogen

Vattenfall and Preem will now enter into a feasibility phase to assess the possibility of accelerating the development of a value chain connecting offshore wind and hydrogen with the refining industry on the Swedish west coast to swiftly transform to fossil-free fuels, starting latest 2030. Vattenfall sees a huge potential to decarbonize industries like refining, petrochemicals, steel, and fertilizers by using fossil-free electricity and hydrogen. Preem and Vattenfall believe that in order to strengthen Sweden’s position as a frontrunner in the emerging markets of fossil-free fuels and materials, new partnerships…
