Albertsons Companies’ O Organics® Coffee Is Now 100% Fair Trade Certified

Albertsons Companies’ O Organics® coffee is now 100 percent certified sustainable by Fair Trade USA, meeting our Sustainable Coffee Challenge commitment. With each cup you drink, you’re helping farmers and the environment.

The Fair Trade Certified™ seal on each O Organics coffee product means that farmers are earning fair wages and working in safe conditions. Additionally, part of the cost of each O Organics coffee product goes directly back to the farmers and their communities through Community Development Funds, which help improve life in farming communities.

O Organics Fair Trade Certified coffee has generated more than $2.5M in Community Development Funds since our Fair Trade program began. Last year, Community Development Funds were used to support farming communities by:

  • Helping to build primary and secondary schools in Ethiopia
  • Improving coffee processing facilities with dry mills and solar dryers in Peru
  • Training farmers in agricultural and business practices in Honduras
  • Helping to replant trees in Colombia

Fair Trade certification is one way that Albertsons Companies contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Fair Trade standards help to advance UN SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting better working conditions for farmers and guaranteeing a minimum price on coffee which allows farmers to plan for the future. The standards also support UN SDG 12, Responsible Production and Consumption, by having specific environmental requirements including protecting biodiversity, forests, and waterways.
