BerryWorld marks Zero Waste Week by celebrating 400k meals’ milestone of fruit diverted to vulnerable people

To mark Zero Waste Week BerryWorld have launched a food waste awareness campaign to call attention to the importance of cutting down waste, and celebrate their latest milestone – delivering 400 thousand meals’ worth of fruit to FareShare.

“We are immensely proud to have reached this milestone with our growers. It’s great to know that only this year our out of spec fruit has supported over 1,300 charities and community groups in providing healthy meals to vulnerable individuals.”

Emma Henry, Senior Responsible Sourcing Manager at BerryWorld UK

Since the beginning of the partnership in 2020, BerryWorld and its growers have been diverting fresh berries to FareShare, which the food charity have delivered to charities supporting vulnerable people across the UK.

Last Christmas, BerryWorld launched a campaign to ‘share the berry goodness’, raising over £5,700 for FareShare. Now, to mark Zero Waste Week in the UK, the berry supplier is running a campaign on their BerryWorld brand range, available at Ocado, to celebrate their longstanding partnership with FareShare.

Adele Fash, Commercial Manager, Produce at FareShare, said: “It has been an absolute delight for FareShare to be able to access quality strawberries where the product life is at its premium. BerryWorld growers responded quickly in embedding FareShare into their operations, successfully diverting unharvested fruit to those in need.”

Emma Henry, Senior Responsible Sourcing Manager at BerryWorld UK said, “We are immensely proud to have reached this milestone with our growers. It’s great to know that only this year our out of spec fruit has supported over 1,300 charities and community groups in providing healthy meals to vulnerable individuals, including people on low income, school children, people with health conditions and refugees and asylum seekers, among other groups.”
