Branston redistributes the equivalent of 1 million meals with potato supplies

Branston Ltd one of the UK’s biggest suppliers of potatoes has donated the equivalent of 1 million meals to FareShare.

The organisation has been working with FareShare since April 2017, to reduce food waste and redistribute their top-quality potatoes through FareShare’s network of charities across the country.

With 3 depots located in Scotland, Lincolnshire and Somerset, by working with FareShare, Branston have supported over 3000 charities across the UK, who provide nutritious meals to families and individuals facing food poverty. These charities do amazing work to support children under 18, older people, those that are homeless or sleeping rough, and low or no-income families.

Simon Telfer, HR director at Branston said: “Reaching this huge milestone is a proud moment for Branston. Supporting charitable organisations is a major part of our ethos and FareShare’s commitment to not only reducing food waste, but also providing nourishing meals for those in need, really resonates with us as a business.

“Potatoes are a household staple that are easy to cook with and offer a range of nutritional benefits, making them an essential part of many meals. As more and more people are affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis, we’re so pleased to be supporting a range of charities that offer help to those in need, from food banks to community kitchens, and we’re also expanding our donations to include supply from our Perth site.

“We’re proud to be able to contribute such an enormous donation, which has assisted FareShare’s incredible work in delivering the equivalent of almost 130 million meals throughout the last financial year, and we encourage more businesses to join forces with the charity and support communities in need.”

Ben Read, Commercial Officer for Produce at FareShare said: “The potatoes we receive from Branston are so valuable for the charities we support. The versatility of the product really supports people who are struggling, and partnerships such as these are vital during the current cost of living crisis we are facing. A big thank you to the Branston team for their continued support and congratulations on reaching an amazing 1 million meals redistributed to FareShare!”
