Charities Rethink Mental Illness, DEMAND, Book Aid International and Access All Areas win Kingston Smith Creative Vision Award films

Kingston Smith is delighted to announce the charity winners of its fourth annual Creative Vision Award films supported this year by the Institute of Fundraising. For 2018, there are two winners in the small charities category: DEMAND and Access All Areas and two in the regular charity category: Rethink Mental Illness and Book Aid International.

All charities will receive an animated brand film worth an estimated £150,000. Films will be created by students and recent graduates of animation and VFX under the guidance of industry professionals, as part of Bournemouth University’s BFX Competition.

Nick Brooks, not for profit partner at Kingston Smith, said: “The feedback we’ve had from winners of CVA films in previous years has shown what an amazing impact they can have. We’re really pleased to continue to give something back to a sector in which we work so much and at the same time to support the country’s emerging animators and visual effects talent”.

Access All Areas makes urban, disruptive performance by learning disabled and autistic people to champion learning disabled creative voices.

Nick Llewellyn, Artistic Director said: “Winning a Creative Vision Award film will have a huge impact on Access All Areas. We’ll reach more people than ever, and are excited to involve our professional learning disabled and autistic artists in the development and narration of the video”.

Book Aid International provides around one million brand new books to thousands of public and community libraries, schools, refugee camps, hospitals, universities and prisons around the world.

Emma Taylor, Head of Communications: “We are so pleased to have won a Creative Vision Award film for 2018. We plan to use the animation to engage new supporters and we hope that it will help us raise more funds so that we can send even more books to those who need them most. We can’t wait to get started!”

DEMAND adapt and make custom disability equipment that works with disabled people to design and manufacture equipment that makes their daily life easier, assists with therapy goals or enables them to enjoy sport and leisure activities.

Lynnette Smith, Marketing Executive said: “We are thrilled to be one of the charities selected for the Kingston Smith Creative Vision Award this year. This film will make such a difference to how we communicate our goals and illustrate how we can empower people to overcome barriers to inclusion, participation and independence using design and engineering”.

Rethink Mental Illness supports millions of people affected by mental illness by challenging attitudes and changing lives – every year, they support almost 60,000 people to get through  crises and live independently.

Brian Dow, Director of External Affairs said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Kingston Smith for this incredible prize. Ultimately this film will give us the chance to show people they are not alone when dealing with mental illness and we’re here to support them. We’re very excited to start working with rising talents across the industry to make something really special.”
