and 3M Team Up To Launch Campaign to Say “Thanks a Billion” to Science Teachers

It is time to go beyond just thanking science teachers. They dedicate countless hours to their students. They inspire young people to become the next generation of science leaders. And teachers collectively spend over $1.6 Billion of their own money on school supplies every year. In 2015, one in ten teachers across the US spent $1,000 or more on supplies for their classrooms.

For science teachers, new lab equipment is essential, but often expensive to buy. That’s why, one of the largest organizations for young people and social change, and 3M, the global science company, are encouraging students to show their appreciation to their favorite science teacher through the “Thanks a Billion” campaign.

Students are encouraged to create a personalized Thank You card and remind teachers about, where they can crowdfund important supplies and new projects to make their classroom even better.

“We engage with young people throughout the school year, and understand the level of commitment it takes from teachers to make the classroom fun and continuously inspiring,” said Aria Finger, CEO at “We’re excited to partner with 3M to promote innovation in the classroom, and offer support to the incredible educators who are grooming our next generation of leaders.”

“Teachers play an essential role in recognizing students’ potential and encouraging them to strive for greatness,” said Kim Price, President of the 3M Foundation. “We’re pleased to join to support outstanding teachers who serve as role models and inspire students to succeed, particularly in STEM fields.” In addition to the “Thanks a Billion” campaign, 3M has contributed more than $2 million over the last several years to classroom projects across the U.S. through an ongoing partnership with Donors Choose.

Chicago Educator Dwayne Reed, known for his song “Welcome to the 4th Grade,” joined the campaign by filming a PSA with his students encouraging other young people to participate in the campaign.

Students can sign up for the “Thanks a Billion” campaign at or by texting TEACH to 38383. Those who upload a photo of themselves with their handmade card and favorite science teacher will be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship and nominate their teachers for an opportunity to win a $500 grant from Donors Choose or the grand prize $5,000 grant for a classroom makeover.
