Dr. Felicia Blow, APR, Commences Yearlong Term as PRSA Chair

Felicia Blow, Ph.D., APR, has kicked off her yearlong term as Chair of PRSA, the nation’s leading professional organization serving the communications community. Among her first moves was naming two members as senior counsel to the Board of Directors (Jan. 31) and appointing a slate of volunteer member leaders who will support key strategic goals of the organization. Dr. Blow was elected by the delegates of the PRSA Leadership Assembly in December 2020.

As Chair, Dr. Blow’s focus will include encouraging greater member growth as well as increased involvement and engagement with PRSA’s programs and services among current members, fully embracing DE&I as a business imperative and expanding the organization’s alliances and partnerships. To help achieve these goals, she will work closely with leaders of a variety of PRSA’s committees, including Advocacy, the Board of Ethics and Professional Standards (BEPS), D&I and PRSSA, among many others. The theme she chose to guide her efforts is: “Meeting the Moment–PRSA Relevancy in a Time of Change.”

Established in 1947, PRSA will commemorate its upcoming 75th anniversary throughout 2022 by highlighting the powerful influence the organization has had throughout its history and how that proven leadership will continue to shape its future. This recognition will include a dedicated anniversary section on prsa.org showcasing PRSA milestones, a book featuring top moments and individuals throughout PR history and a series of virtual and live events. The anniversary will also be actively documented across PRSA’s social channels.

“Come December 2022, it is my hope that we not only have more members but that they have fully realized the many benefits that come with being a member of PRSA. I want our members to be delighted with what they have learned, the relationships they have made, and the professional development they have experienced,” said Dr. Blow. She added, “And, as just the third Black person to fill this seat over PRSA’s 75-year history, I am mindful of the pressing need for us to expand our efforts to embrace all aspects of DEI. I’m ready to get on with it!”

Dr. Blow is an award-winning leader with extensive organizational, fundraising, strategic planning, leadership and management experience. Her 30-year career spans work in manufacturing (Caterpillar, Inc.); waste management and environmental services (Southeastern Public Service Authority); telecommunications (Cox Communications); and higher education (Paul D. Camp and Tidewater Community Colleges).

She currently serves as Associate Vice President for Development at the renowned historically black institution Hampton University. At Hampton, Dr. Blow led the university’s $150 Million Dream No Small Dreams II Campaign as its campaign director, helping the University to exceed its campaign goal by more than 10 percent.

Dr. Blow has taken on several leadership roles within PRSA over the years. Prior to serving as Chair, she served as Chair-elect in 2021 and senior counsel to the 2018 and 2019 PRSA Board of Directors. From 2013-2014, Dr. Blow served as a PRSA Board of Directors member representing the Mid-Atlantic District. For more information on Dr. Blow, please visit prsa.org.
