EarthX Launches Environmental Justice Fund

International nonprofit EarthX is launching an Environmental Justice Fund. Recognizing the deep-rooted relationship between environmental racism and community issues such as pollution and climate change, EarthX will be promoting and raising funds for select organizations in the United States. The first beneficiaries are currently being onboarded as recipients of fundraising efforts by EarthX throughout its vast donor network.

Promoting Environmental Justice | EarthX is pleased to shed light on the stories of its inaugural communities located in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans and Houston through a commissioned series of articles spotlighting their regional environmental hazards and the work of the local organizations fighting for change. The articles have been published via 3BL Media releases and online at EarthxLeague, a members-based community forum focused on environmental solutions.

“Our mission is to leverage the power of the hundreds of thousands in our network that come together to advocate for our planet.  But we cannot talk about our planet without discussing its effects on humanity,” said Trammell S. Crow, founder of EarthX.  “Connecting the dots of environmental injustice across our country will allow the voices of the small armies of those working to help their fellow human beings not only to be heard, but ultimately for the injustice to be rectified.”

The first cohort of EarthX Environmental Justice Fund beneficiaries are:

  • The Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition in Seattle, empowering and supporting a marginalized community living along a toxic river;
  • Residents of Gordon Plaza in New Orleans, fighting for relocation from toxic land;
  • RISE St. James, also in New Orleans, lobbying to stop the development of a petrochemical plant in an already polluted region;
  • Texas Health and Environment Alliance in Houston, diminishing the effects of toxic waste through advocacy and education;
  • East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice in Los Angeles, preparing community members to advocate for themselves during decision-making processes that impact their health and quality of life;
  • Communities for a Better Environment, also in Los Angeles, advocating for greener and healthier communities and environments, including ending urban oil extraction;
  • UPROSE in New York City, initiating the city’s first cooperatively owned community solar project.

Making an Impact | EarthX partners with innovative organizations across multiple industries- from media, energy, technology, and many more- that are committed to sustainability and to making the world a cleaner, healthier, better place for now and the future. In 2021, in addition to the launch of its Environmental Justice Fund, EarthX has launched a Community Fund with Socialwyze, a vehicle funded by charitable contributions from citizens and businesses wanting to give back to their community—that is aimed at creating opportunities for underemployed people to work on local environmental public benefit work projects.
