Garnier Relaunch “One Green Step” Campaign To Promote Greener Living

Standing up for the environment includes small everyday actions. To support consumers on their journey towards more sustainable and responsible choices, Garnier is repeating its “One Green Step” campaign. The idea is to encourage people to share the steps they are taking day-to-day to help the environment. The campaign is rooted in the brand’s commitments and its determination to promote Green Beauty that is accessible to everyone.

Many of us want to do our part for the planet by living and consuming more responsibly. A global study conducted by Garnier as part of its “One Green Step” annual report highlights this growing awareness about environmental challenges, revealing that 83% of people surveyed want to adopt more sustainable habits in 2022, compared with 81% in 2021.

En 2021:

61% – of respondents said that they recycled more.

42% – took shorter showers.

67% – made a commitment to reduce their plastic consumption.

While the intentions may be crystal clear, putting them into practice takes longer. The same survey found that just 5% of respondents believe that they already live sustainably while only 30% are ready to act now for the planet.

The contradiction stems from a variety of obstacles, ranging from a lack of sustainable consumption choices to insufficient information and financial considerations.

For Garnier, removing these barriers is key to promoting more sustainable lifestyles and consumption approaches. The brand has made this a focus area of its 2022 “One Green Step” campaign.

“One Green Step” is based on a video in which consumers show off their everyday sustainable choices.

The objective is twofold: to inspire other consumers to follow suit but also to encourage them to share the video on social media and create a snowball effect.

Each time the video is shared, Garnier pledges to pay for the collection and recycling of five plastic bottles (or the equivalent weight in plastic) in partnership with the NGO, “Plastics For Change”. If someone creates a social media post about something they personally have done for the planet, Garnier and “Plastics For Change” promise to collect and recycle ten plastic bottles. The goal is to recycle two million bottles.

Fighting plastic pollution

To tackle the environmental effects of plastic consumption, Garnier has teamed up with two non-governmental organizations:

  • “Plastics For Change”, which fights the social impact of plastic pollution. In India, the NGO is helping families to get out of poverty by paying people who collect plastic bottles for recycling.
  • “Ocean Conservancy”, which combats the environmental impact of plastic pollution, especially on the world’s oceans.

To accompany the campaign, Garnier has posted a guide on its website to educate consumers about responsible choices that they can adopt in their day-to-day lives.

A long-term environmental commitment by Garnier

The “One Green Step” campaign also forms part of Garnier’s sustainability commitments, which include drastically reducing its environmental impact by 2025. This in turn echoes the commitments made by the L’Oréal Groupe as part of L’Oréal for the Future, the Group’s sustainability program for 2030.
