Gillian Anderson has joined the War Child family as an Ambassador

War Child UK have appointed award-winning television, film and theatre actor Gillian Anderson as a charity Ambassador.

Gillian rose to international fame through her leading role in The X-Files and has since given stand-out performances in TV productions such as Bleak House, The Fall, Hannibal and Netflix’s The Crown and Sex Education. Her film roles in the likes of House of Mirth, Viceroy’s House and The Last King of Scotland have been widely celebrated, while theatre roles in The Young Vic’s A Streetcar Named Desire and All About Eve in London’s West End, all brought major acclaim. Among a roster of honours, Gillian has won Primetime Emmy awards, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Evening Standard Theatre Award – in addition to being appointed an honorary OBE in 2016 for her services to drama.

Now, Gillian will also be lending her support and voice to raise awareness of War Child’s work in protecting, educating and standing up for the rights of children affected by conflict. The charity aims to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and stay to support them through their recovery – keeping them safe, helping them learn and cope with their experiences, and equipping them with skills for the future.

Helen Pattinson, Director of Fundraising and Communications at War Child UK says: “We are delighted that Gillian is joining the War Child family as an Ambassador. We know that in Gillian, we have a strong and passionate advocate, who will stand alongside the children we support. Her commitment to the work that War Child does is inspirational, and as we strive to reach more children caught up in conflict, we are excited to have Gillian with us on our journey”.
