Ethical UK Based Independent Financial Advisors Investing Ethically have announced that all of their advisors have now been awarded Chartered Status.
The Chartered Institute of Insurance’s title “Chartered Financial Planner” is a widely accepted ‘gold standard’ qualification for professional financial planners and financial advisers in the United Kingdom.
By definition, holders of the Chartered Financial Planner qualification are among the most experienced and most qualified advisers in the profession.
Investing Ethically said:
“It is just over five years ago since the directors of Investing Ethically Ltd completed the purchase of the business from the founder, Alan Kirkham who retired from the company at that time. It has been an exciting and very busy period since, with a number of significant regulatory driven changes being introduced by the Financial Conduct Authority as part of its Retail Distribution Review in January 2013. One aspect of the RDR was a move towards greater professionalism and higher minimum qualifications amongst the adviser community. All our advisers achieved the requisite qualifications at that time.
At Investing Ethically however, we are always looking to the future and trying to identify ways in which we can ensure the highest possible standards of advice and service to our clients. So, on a dark and stormy January afternoon in 2014 the advising Directors made a commitment to each other – we would study for a further 3 years to pass a series of the Advanced Qualifications in the pursuit of Chartered Financial Planner Status. No small commitment with each qualification requiring around 150 hours of study time and revision.
Having taken the final Advanced paper in the series (the latest being Tax and Trusts) in April the advisers, Phil Cockrell, Lisa Hardman and Andy Hockaday had to wait nervously for 8 weeks whilst the papers were marked. We are delighted to share with you that all three advisers successfully passed and have been awarded the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning by the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII). This is one of the highest qualifications which advisers can achieve and is equivalent to a bachelor honours degree.
Not content with achieving the Advanced Diploma, the advisers have committed to adopting the stringent requirements of Chartered Financial Planner status. This places a higher degree of burden on each of them to drive forward their knowledge in the pursuit of the best outcomes for our clients and to act at all times in accordance with the Code of Ethics. The Code exists to guide the profession and to protect the public.
We think it’s important to share with you that, according to the CII, only around 20% of the adviser community have been awarded Chartered Financial Planner status and it represents a significant achievement for our adviser team at Investing Ethically Ltd.
We are passionate about our business and about the need for ‘advice’ to become a profession which enjoys the same professional standing and reputation as accountants, solicitors, surveyors and engineers to name but a few. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to working together with you in the future.”

Our Thoughts
It is great to see ethically minded businesses aim to go for the highest awards they can and to help show people that the ethical way of doing things can also be the top service.
