Lindsay Hooper announced as interim CEO for CISL

CISL’s current Executive Director Lindsay Hooper will now step up to take the helm of the Institute into an exciting 2024

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership today announces that Lindsay Hooper has been appointed as its interim CEO/Director.

In her previous position as Executive Director at CISL, Lindsay made an important contribution as part of the senior leadership team in setting the Institute’s ambitions for impact, its sustainability strategy and organisational purpose.

Lindsay played a foundational role driving transformative change and supported CISL’s evolution into the respected international institute it is today.

Her appointment comes at an exciting time for CISL, as it implements its strategy for impact. She says: “CISL’s work to activate leadership for a sustainable future couldn’t be more important following a year of record global temperatures and sustained biodiversity loss – with major technological and geopolitical shifts transforming the context in which progress towards global goals must be achieved.”

“In this decade of action, CISL has a critical role to play in educating, convening and fostering innovation in support of the systemic shifts we urgently need to see.”

“I am looking forward to working with CISL’s exceptional team – including our international network – to deliver our ambitious strategy for impact,” Lindsay concludes.

With over 20 years’ experience at the forefront of business and sustainability, Lindsay has helped senior leaders from multinational businesses, financial institutions and influential organisations to accelerate progress to a sustainable economy.

Under her guidance as Executive Director for Education, CISL has become the global benchmark for sustainability leadership education. Hundreds of major organisations and thousands of individuals globally have gone on to influence change and deliver results, aligning their organisational performance with the delivery of positive outcomes for society.

Lindsay succeeds Clare Shine, who is now a Fellow of the Institute, and Dame Polly Courtice who stood down as Founder Director of CISL in 2021 after more than 30 years leading the organisation to become an internationally recognised centre of excellence in sustainability leadership.

This interim announcement follows an internal recruitment process led by Management Board and supervised by our Chair Professor, Richard Penty.
