TV star Lydia Bright is set to scale new heights for children’s charity Barnardo’s by climbing to the top of London’s iconic ‘Cheesegrater’ – known officially as The Leadenhall Building.
The former TOWIE legend, who is a Fostering and Adoption Ambassador for Barnardo’s, will climb all 1,250 steps of the skyscraper as part of the charity’s first Urban Summit challenge along with her brother, Freddie, on Saturday 1 December.
Lydia and Freddie will be joined by 100 other participants who all will be hoping to raise as much money as possible to help Barnardo’s support some of the most vulnerable children and young people in society.
Several of the participants plan to push their stamina to the limit, by pledging to as climb the Leadenhall as many as ten times – the same as walking to the peak of Californian rock face El Capitan – 12,500 steps in all.
Barnardo’s Fostering and Adoption Ambassador Lydia Bright said:
I’m super excited to be scaling the Cheesegrater for Barnardo’s and I really hope my feet survive this challenge!
Barnardo’s is such an amazing charity which is very close to my heart. I know at first hand the wonderful work they do helping vulnerable children and young people.
Chief Executive of Barnardo’s Javed Khan, said:
We’re delighted that our Fostering and Adoption Ambassador Lydia is helping us to launch this fantastic new fundraising challenge.
It’s a unique opportunity to test your fitness and stamina, whilst raising vital funds for Barnardo’s so we can continue to support hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable children across the UK.
We wish Lydia and everyone who is taking part in the challenge the best of luck and were incredibly grateful for their support.
All those taking part have been asked to raise a minimum of £200 for Barnardo’s. As well as a comprehensive training plan and fundraising guide when signing up, all entrants will be rewarded with a Barnardo’s t-shirt, a finishers’ medal and photo.
On completion, participants will enjoy breath-taking views of the London skyline – and well-earned post-event refreshments.
