Actress Millie Bobby Brown has teamed up with UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson and Lilly Singh; singer-songwriter Dua Lipa and performance artists Blue Man Group, in a new video released by UNICEF ahead of World Children’s Day, celebrated on 20 November.
The short video shows the 14-year-old star – who has symbolically changed her name to Millie Bobby ‘Blue’ to mark the occasion – overseeing a global ‘go blue’ operation. Alongside her team of young helpers, Millie calls on fellow UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors and supporters to join her in going blue – by wearing or displaying the colour blue – in support of children’s rights.
“World Children’s Day is a fun day with a serious message,” said Millie Bobby Brown. “It is a day where all children are encouraged to speak out about what matters to them, like education, safe spaces to learn and play, and positive environments. By going blue for UNICEF on this day, we are demanding the world provide a brighter future for kids.”

As the story unfolds, viewers see the stars responding to Millie’s call while going about their daily lives. Liam Neeson bakes blue cupcakes while reenacting a famous scene from his cult-hit Taken, Dua Lipa is in the studio re-recording the lyrics of her global hit Be The One from red to blue, Orlando Bloom is on a film set working under his new name – Orlando ‘Bluem’ – and Lilly Singh is at home making ‘blunicorn’ smoothies.
UNICEF’s annual World Children’s Day is commemorated each year on 20 November and marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The global day raises awareness and vital funds for the millions of children who are unschooled, unprotected and uprooted. This year, UNICEF is inviting the public to go online and sign its global petition asking for leaders to commit to fulfilling the rights of every child now and for future generations, and to Go Blue for every child by doing or wearing something blue on 20 November.
“We want as many people as possible to go blue on November 20th, whether it’s wearing blue or incorporating blue into your day,” said Brown. “World Children’s Day is the one day a year when feeling blue means feeling – and doing – good.”
