New Community Interest Company set to help connect the public with inspiring stories

Research published recently suggests millions of Brits who have overcome adversity in life have a secret desire to tell their story to the media, but don’t know how.

Over two-fifths of the public (44%) told Sapio Research that they felt they had overcome a significant challenge in their lives such as disability, discrimination, poverty, isolation or prejudice.

While 38% of those overcoming challenges would never speak publicly about their experience, many are prepared to speak out and share their experiences to help others in their situation learn from them.

One in ten would like help in speaking to the media – equivalent to just under 3m people. And now a new Community Interest Company will help them do just that.

The Rooftop was launched in 2018 by social enterprise Campaign Collective  as a news site solely committed to telling positive news stories to the public. Today it has transformed into an independent Community Interest Community, expanding its mission to help deliver training and advice to members of the public who want to have their voices heard.

The Rooftop News CIC will soon enable people with lived experience of overcoming challenges to have their voices heard while simultaneously meeting the wider public’s growing need for more positive news.

With profits generated through the media site and by providing communications training to charities and campaigners, The Rooftop News CIC will provide free communications skills training to those with lived experience of overcoming challenges.

One of the Founders, Simon Francis, commented:

“We aim to address the lack of positive news that the public hears about. While helping the millions of people in the UK who want to tell their story of overcoming challenges in their lives to the media.

“By providing an outlet for these inspiring stories – and news from other amazing campaigners – we will empower those people who have overcome challenges and help others learn from the experiences of inspiring individuals.”
