Samaritans and Beder unite to help more people struggling to cope

Beder, a charity dedicated to raising awareness around mental health and suicide prevention, was set up by the family of Beder Mirjan, who took his own life in 2017. Beder aims to increase awareness and understanding around mental health and suicide through exciting, unique and inspiring events and initiatives.

Beder wants to help reduce the number of people suffering alone and taking their own lives. Beder organises events and initiatives in the UK and promotes wellbeing through activities across wellness and recreation in addition to providing educational and work experience opportunities for young people.

Beder has chosen to partner with Samaritans due to their expertise in suicide prevention. Samaritans is a charity working in the UK and Ireland to reduce the number of people who die by suicide and help those struggling to cope.

Beder is delighted to partner with Samaritans and play our part in raising awareness around these important issues whilst signposting people towards the excellent support that Samaritans provide to anyone feeling overwhelmed or suicidal

Samaritans’ 20,000 volunteers provide non-judgemental emotional support, through a listening service, including by phone, email, letter, face to face and through a Welsh language service.

Samaritans is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Demand for the service is growing with Samaritans responding to a call for help every six seconds.

The funds raised by the partnership will help Samaritans to develop its service and be there for people in ways which feel most comfortable to them, including a new online chat service. This service will ensure more young people always have somewhere to turn, now and in the future.

Samaritans is one of two of Beder’s charity partners. Beder has also partnered with YoungMinds, one of the UK’s leading children’s mental health charity committed to improving the mental health and emotional well-being of children and empowering their parents and carers.

Our confidential 24-hour service, available 365 days a year, is often the only place people can turn to, especially when other services are unavailable. We look forward to working with Beder to ensure that we can continue to be there for people who are struggling to cope. Together we will save lives.
Ruth Sutherland, CEO, Samaritans
