The sustainable agriculture category encompasses improved agricultural practices aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) removals. It includes a wide range of different practices such as reduced tillage and improved residue management, crop rotation, improved grazing activities, optimized fertilizer use, and improved water/irrigation management. Each practice varies in its impact on greenhouse gas emissions reduction and/or carbon dioxide sequestration(removal), and some methodologies may allow crediting for multiple practices. Both sustainable agriculture methodologies were approved with accompanying conditions. CAR U.S. Soil Enrichment Protocol v1.1 was…

Integrity Council launches Asia Pacific hub; partners with National Climate Change Secretariat and Singapore Economic Development Board
The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market has launched its first overseas office – an Asia Pacific hub in Singapore – in partnership with the Singapore Economic Development Board. The hub is also the Integrity Council’s first physical office, since its global team operates fully remotely. It will build on existing work in the region related to the Integrity Council’s Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) with governments, corporates, financial institutions and market actors. Its aim is to support a thriving, interoperable high integrity carbon market across the Asia Pacific region.…

A further Improved Forest Management and an Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation methodology version were also approved in ICVCM’s latest assessment decisions. The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) today approved another batch of engineered Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) methodologies, following the approval of three biochar methodologies in July. Engineered CDR involves using purpose-built technologies to draw down carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. While it currently represents less than 1% of the voluntary carbon market by issued volume, CDR is responsible for a considerable volume of forward sales in…

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market recently announced that the ACR Afforestation & Reforestation of Degraded Lands methodology meets its high-integrity Core Carbon Principles (CCPs), provided certain conditions are met. This is the second Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) methodology to be CCP-Approved. Approval of Afforestation & Reforestation of Degraded Lands methodology Forests are one of the world’s most important natural carbon sinks, but they continue to be destroyed by human and natural causes, with analysis by the World Resources Institute finding that 515 million hectares of tree…
