RNLI seeks new recruits to help share safety messaging and raise funds

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has launched a new campaign to recruit more face-to-face fundraisers to help share vital safety messages and encourage new supporters to sign up and donate after the charity experienced a recent shortfall in funds. With 238 lifeboat stations, 431 lifeboats and 5,500 volunteer crew members, plus 1,500 lifeguards patrolling over 240 UK beaches, the RNLI’s remit is vast. Lifesaving hackathon held at Facebook

Virtual reality games, chatbots and wearable tech were just some of the potentially lifesaving ideas generated when around 150 women took part in a special hackathon for the RNLI at Facebook’s HQ in London. The hackathon was a women-only event organised by Facebook, together with the Ladies That UX and GeekGirl Meetup groups, and saw 20 ideas submitted.
