The Times and Sunday Times Christmas partner with FareShare for Christmas appeal

FareShare is humbled to have been chosen as one of the three charities being supported by the famous Times and Sunday Times Christmas appeal this year. The Times and Sunday Times will reveal the difficult truth about the lives of some of the most vulnerable communities across the UK and their struggle to afford good healthy food, whilst millions of tonnes of good food goes to waste each year in the UK.

Following in depth research and investigation, the Times and Sunday Times will be producing exclusive stories, interviews and pictures that show how FareShare is responding to this challenge, and how the work that FareShare does is being recognised by more people who also want to help us fight our cause – “to let no good food go to waste”.

The Times and Sunday Times will reveal an exclusive and heart-warming interview between its ambassador Marcus Rashford and Manchester United all time legend, Sir Alex Ferguson, about Marcus becoming the powerful force for good that he has become. It will also highlight the food businesses that are working with FareShare to redistribute their unsold products before it becomes waste, and most importantly it will shine a spotlight on the stories of the families and individuals living in very difficult circumstances who access this food.

Donors to this campaign, and to our Christmas appeal, will see their donations doubled by a generous gift of up to £2 million from Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Michael Moritz, who together are joining FareShare and Marcus’ fight to tackle hunger in the most vulnerable communities in the UK.

Lindsay Boswell, FareShare Chief Executive, said: “This year, FareShare has faced the unprecedented challenges of coronavirus head on, the likes of which our network of charities have never experienced before. The Covid-19 crisis has affected and increased hardship for millions of people – including many who had never before been considered vulnerable. Demand for our service skyrocketed overnight and our dedicated army of frontline staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly throughout the crisis, to more than double the amount of food we distribute – now over 2 million meals a week.

“The Times and Sunday Times Christmas appeal comes at a crucial time as we navigate a difficult and uncertain winter and we really are grateful for every single donation. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our ambassador Marcus Rashford, as well as Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Michael Moritz, for their incredible support which, combined with the Times Christmas appeal, has the power to transform our work fighting hunger and food waste across the UK this winter and beyond.”
