Ten UK charities have been named as winners of the 2022 GSK IMPACT Awards for their outstanding work improving health and wellbeing in their communities.
The awards come after a challenging two years for many local charities, with the Covid-19 pandemic having driven an increase in the number of people who need their support while also making it harder to deliver some services.
The ten winning charities were chosen from more than 350 organisations following a rigorous selection and assessment process. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the GSK IMPACT Awards, and their partnership with leading health and care charity The King’s Fund. The awards are designed to recognise the outstanding work of small and medium-sized charities working to improve health and wellbeing in the UK. Winners will receive £40,000 in unrestricted funding as well as expert support and leadership development provided by The King’s Fund.
The ten winners of the 2022 GSK IMPACT Awards are:
- BHA for Equality, tackling health inequalities in ethnic minority communities in the north of England by offering advice and screening services for infections and diseases including HIV, cancer and tuberculosis (TB)
- Brigstowe, enhancing the quality of life of people living with HIV and other long-term health conditions in Bristol and the surrounding area
- Bromley and Croydon Women’s Aid, providing a place of safe refuge and support for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence
- Dads Unlimited, a Kent-based charity supporting the mental health of dads across England who are undergoing family breakdown
- Dementia Forward, providing information, advice and support along with wellbeing activities and respite for people across North Yorkshire affected by dementia

A key aim of the GSK IMPACT Awards programme is to develop leaders in the charity sector, and all winners are invited to build on their success and take part in a tailored leadership development programme run by The King’s Fund. Following this, they are invited to join the GSK IMPACT Awards Network, a UK-wide network of more than 110 previous award winners that work together to develop leaders, find new ways of working and provide mutual support.
Katie Pinnock, Director UK Charitable Partnerships at GSK, said:
‘We are immensely proud to be celebrating 25 years of the GSK IMPACT Awards. Since we launched the programme in 1997, nearly £7.7m has been awarded in support of 518 of the most impressive health and care charities in the UK. The Awards recognise innovation, leadership and resilience. Our 25 year partnership with The King’s Fund is testament to the commitment from both organisations to support the health and wellbeing of some of the UK’s most vulnerable people. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners of the 2022 GSK IMPACT Awards.’
Lisa Weaks, Assistant Director, Leadership and Organisational Development, at The King’s Fund, said:
‘For 25 years the GSK IMPACT awards have been a mark of excellence in the voluntary sector. We are proud to support the ten winning charities, all of which have gone above and beyond to respond to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. The support provided by charities for people’s health and wellbeing has never been more important, and we were inspired by the many memorable examples of new services and innovative initiatives the winners have developed in response to the changing needs of the people and communities they serve. We were also really impressed by the strength of leadership shown by the winning organisations, and we hope they will benefit from the development and support opportunities offered by these awards.’
