WaterAid UK is thrilled to announce four new trustees who have joined the WaterAid UK board, following their appointment on 16 September 2025.
Richard Morris, Ruth Jefferson, Hind Khatib-Othman and Osward Chanda will be volunteering their time over a four-year term, bringing a new range of expertise to support WaterAid’s mission to reach everyone everywhere with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

Richard Morris is a global marketing and media expert, currently serving as Chief Executive, UK and EMEA of IPG Mediabrands. Richard has worked with some of the most well-known brands around the world including DIAGEO and Amazon, and is a member of the Meta EMEA Client Council and Amazon Ads EMEA Client Council.

Ruth Jefferson brings private water industry expertise to the WaterAid UK board, having held numerous senior positions at Wessex Water before being appointed as the Chief Executive in October 2024. Prior to this, Ruth had a legal career specialising in competition law, and is experienced in dealing with legal, compliance and governance matters.
Ruth Jefferson said:
“Joining WaterAid’s Board is both a privilege and a personal commitment. I hope to use my experience in water industry leadership to help drive lasting change and improve access to clean water for communities worldwide”
Hind Khatib-Othman is a recognised leader in global public health and international development with over 33 years’ experience in senior leadership roles, including as Managing Director of Programmes for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she oversaw health strengthening in 73 countries (2012-2019). Prior to this, Hind held directorships and senior roles with UNAIDS, The Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and UNICEF.
Hind began her career in Water Sanitation and Hygiene in her home country of Jordan and, through chairing the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) she has promoted sanitation and hygiene as essential components of global health equity.
Hind Khatib-Othman said:

I have spent my career advancing health equity and strengthening systems around the globe and am passionate about ensuring everyone has access to clean water and sanitation. I look forward to using my experience in global health and development to contribute to WaterAid’s mission to provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to everyone, everywhere.”
Osward M Chanda is an expert advisor in water, sanitation and multilateral development finance with over 30 years’ experience working in Africa. He served as Director of Water Development and Sanitation at the Africa Development Bank until July 2024 where he improved inclusive access, fostered public- private partnerships and strengthened climate change resilience. Osward has particular expertise in the impacts that climate change, population growth and limited resources, have on water and safe sanitation.

“Joining the Board of WaterAid is a great honour. Throughout my career-from leading water development and sanitation initiatives at the Africa Development Bank to advising global water programs-I have seen firsthand the transformative impact of safe water and sanitation, and how crucial clean water is in socio-economic development. I am pleased to contribute my experience to the board, as we work to strengthen communities through water security”
