EFRAG and CDP have recently announced a collaboration to accelerate the market uptake of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), adopted by the European Commission on 31 July 2023. Under the agreement, CDP will explore and implement alignment of its disclosure system with the ESRS as EFRAG provides technical expertise, access and guidance. The Transition Pathway Initiative Centre (TPI Centre), based at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), has assessed 1000+ companies’ transition plans, and found that only one company in 20 quantifies how it will meet its greenhouse gas targets. The Centre’s analysis includes the largest companies in the highest-emitting sectors, such as oil and gas, steel, and coal mining, collectively constituting at least 90% of the total market capitalisation of those high-emitting sectors.
