The ASA/CAP have released a post called: Greenspeaking with Confidence: launching our latest environmental research and our new Organisational Strategy. I have enclosed the text of the link below, but please have a look at the ASA/CAP site as there are lots of things of interest to anyone with an interest in Ethical Marketing.
We are delighted to announce ‘Greenspeaking with Confidence’, an online event to discuss sustainable advertising and environmental and green claims, as well as introduce our new five-year strategy. This event will be hosted on 28 November.
The ASA is the UK’s independent frontline regulator of ads by legitimate businesses and organisations in all media, including online. Being the centre of expertise on ad regulation, we recognise that organisations increasingly understand the importance of sustainable practices and are eager to share their ‘green’ work with the public. In order to support responsible advertising, this event will give attendees a deeper understanding of our work on regulating environmental claims in ads, and how businesses can make green claims with confidence.
We will also reveal the results of our research on the public’s understanding of recyclable, biodegradable, compostable and related environmental terms, and the implications of this research for the ad industry.
Also on the agenda, we will introduce our new strategy, AI-assisted, collective ad regulation, and share details about the core principles which will guide our work for the next five years.
The online event will feature expert speakers, including ASA’s Chair David Currie and Chief Executive Guy Parker to brief on the new strategy, and Miles Lockwood, Director of Complaints and Investigations, to discuss making green claims confidently. There will also be a panel discussion. We’ll also be joined by Cecilia Aranha, Director of Consumer Protection at the Competition and Markets Authority, Harriet Kingaby from the Conscious Advertising Network and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Net Zero, Alex Sobel MP, which will be moderated by climate journalist Lucy Siegle.
Greenspeaking with Confidence is set to be a valuable event, not only to inform the industry and stakeholders about our work on environmental ad regulation, but also to support advertisers and marketers to make responsible green claims in their ads, ensuring they remain legal, decent, honest, and truthful.
