Big Issue Partners With Virgin Media To Bring Festive Cheer To Street Vendors This Christmas

Virgin Media will be donating £25,000 to Big Issue vendors across the country this Christmas, as part of its festive charity giveaway.

Spreading Christmas cheer directly from its customers to Big Issue vendors, daily winners of Virgin Media’s ’25 show-stopping giveaways’ draw will receive a £1,000 cash prize to be donated to a Big Issue vendor in their local community.

Starting from 1st December and running for 25 days, £1,000 will be gifted each day, with Virgin Media working in collaboration with the Big Issue team to connect to vendors across the UK.

In a role traditionally built around making face-to-face connections with their local community, Big Issue vendors have suffered a tough year to date, with a 40% drop in magazine sales as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Big Issue works with its vendors on a case by case basis, finding out what they may be struggling with and what they need. After a year of unprecedented change and uncertainty, the cash donations could be used to cover costs for food, education or even school uniform for their children.

Virgin Media’s work with the Big Issue is part of its ‘Let’s Do Christmas’ campaign, allowing the leading broadband provider to share the love with its customers as well as those in need this festive season.

The ’25 Show-stopping giveaways’ campaign is exclusively available for Virgin Media and Mobile customers between the 1st and 25th December, created to boost spirits and get customers feeling festive with daily giveaways.

Virgin Media and Virgin Mobile customers will receive a daily email, offering the chance to enter the gift giveaway. The wider digital campaign will also feature across Virgin Media’s TV and social media platforms giving customers the chance to enter and win big this Christmas.

Tracy Griffin, Interim CEO from The Big Issue Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be working with Virgin Media as part of the “Let’s Do Christmas” giveaway. It’s been a very difficult year for our vendors. Not only in terms of earning a living through selling the magazine, but the lack of footfall in communities has left many vendors feeling lonely and isolated.  This is a lovely way to reach out and connect and to bring some much needed festive cheer.

Cilesta Van Doorn from Virgin Media commented: “Sharing the love with our customers and those in need is so important to us, so we’re thrilled to be partnering with the Big Issue this year as part of our ‘Let’s Do Christmas’ daily giveaway. By gifting each of our winners a cash donation to the Big Issue as part of our prize fund, we’re playing a part in helping vendors continue to build those all-important connections with their communities, even at a time when it’s harder to do so face-to-face.”
