CIPR calls on industry support to back lobbying campaign

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) is calling for the PR industry’s support for its Lobbying For Good Lobbying campaign and to back its calls for reform of lobbying laws. The campaign aims to build greater transparency and openness in our politics through reform of the Lobbying Act.

The Institute is asking members of the industry to write to their MPs to support the campaign and attend a parliamentary briefing day on Tuesday, April 25. They are also calling for lobbyists to share quotes with them with their views of the Act for a forthcoming report.

Write to your MP

The CIPR has drafted a letter for people to adapt and email to their MPs asking them to support the campaign and to attend a briefing day on April 25. Those working in public affairs and lobbying are also welcome to attend the event. Download the letter on our website.

Share your thoughts on the Lobbying Act

If you have a view on whether the Lobbying Act has worked to build trust that you would like to share with MPs please email it to us by Thursday, April 6 for inclusion in a forthcoming report.

Our industry is all about building trust – in our own organisations and those we work closely with. The Lobbying Act has made that harder and has failed in its intention to build trust in our politics – amongst legislators or those that seek to influence and inform those decisions. We’re asking the industry to add your name to our calls to ensure the important work of lobbying is conducted openly and honestly. Please support our campaign by writing to your MP and demonstrate the industry’s commitment to transparency, ethics, and accountability.
Alastair McCapra, CIPR Chief Executive
