CIPR launches ‘Engage’ – a new PR podcast series. Episode 1: Doing Diversity Differently

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) has launched a new podcast series – ‘Engage’ – with an episode on diversity in the public relations profession.

The new series is by PR practitioners, for PR practitioners and will dig deep into the challenges and opportunities facing the PR and comms profession. Each quarter it will bring a range of perspectives to the discussions from across the industry, offering insight and analysis – whatever stage you are in your PR and comms career.

Doing Diversity Differently

The first episode of Engage’ explores the struggle the PR profession has in attracting and retaining diverse PR talent. From the Black Lives Matter resurgence, the experiences of disabled practitioners, social mobility, recruitment practices, and more, the episode “leans into the uncomfortable” with:

  • Chair: Avril Lee MCIPR, Chair of CIPR’s Diversity and Inclusion Network
  • Sara Hawthorn, Managing Director of InFusion Comms
  • Katrina Marshall, journalist and PR consultant
  • Melissa Lawrence, Chief Executive of The Taylor Bennett Foundation

Podcasts are a valuable learning resource and listeners can benefit from not having to be constrained to their desks to absorb the information – especially important in these times.

It is really important to the Podcast Editorial Board that we add value to the conversations taking place across the industry at the moment and offer real insight, opinions, and different perspectives. We will do this with each episode and have plans to create content featuring expert guests from within and outside the industry to deepen every listener’s understanding of a subject, beyond their immediate world of PR and comms.

This is an important subject for our first episode and we’re delighted to have brought together these strong and inspirational voices to speak the truth about diversity in PR. We’re really looking forward to seeing how people respond to the episode and can’t wait to bring more of these much-needed discussions to people’s attention through Engage.

Sara-Anne Mills-Bricknell, Chair CIPR Podcast Editorial Board
