Corporate Leaders Groups top InfluenceMap ranking on climate policy engagement

InfluenceMap has recently launched an interactive platform tracking influencing efforts of companies and industry associations on key files within the EU Green Deal’s landmark initiative of the ‘Fit for 55’ package. The Corporate Leaders Groups were awarded an “A” ranking for their ongoing policy engagement for climate action, topping the industrial association list.

InfluenceMap ranked 70 companies and 30 industry associations headquartered in the EU based on how they have supported or opposed the advancement of more ambitious climate action. Their assessment and scoring methods focus on companies’ and industry associations’ publicly available comments, interactions, and influence on policy and legislation.

Scores above 75 indicate broad alignment with, and support for, Paris-aligned policy by the company’s industry associations. The Corporate Leaders Group topped the “A” list with a score of 92.

Ursula Woodburn, Head of EU Relations at CLG Europe, said:

“We are delighted to see CLG Europe’s work on the Green Deal and specifically the FF55 package rated at the top of InfluenceMap’s list. CLG Europe requires its members to have ambitious, clear and externally scrutinised decarbonisation pledges, transparency on corporate and public affairs related to climate change and consistent support for progressive action.

Right now, thousands of businesses are signing up to net zero pledges, while, in parallel, citizen and NGO scrutiny on the implementation of these targets and business influence on climate and energy policies is growing. Companies must walk the talk, in the short as well as long term.

But more than this, our businesses support the vision of the European Green Deal as the EU’s growth strategy to deliver a safer, more prosperous future and a more sustainable economy for all. And we see with clarity, it is also our energy security strategy. CLG Europe companies have understood that to be future proof, they need to be driving policy on climate that can support their increasingly ambitious internal decarbonisation plans, including an effective Fit for 55 package.”

The Corporate Leaders Groups consist of the European Corporate Leaders Group (CLG Europe) and the UK Corporate Leaders Group (CLG UK). The Cambridge Insititute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) convenes the Corporate Leaders Groups.
